GFD: Rescue Divers Recover Body of Man Off Anao Point; 2ed Apparant Drowning SATURDAY


Guam – Guam Fire Department Spokesman Lt. Ed Artero reports that GFD rescue divers recovered the body of a missing swimmer off Anao Point, Yigo shortly after 1 SATURDAY afternoon.

The man, reported to be in his 20’s, was among a group of 57 people in a UOG Class group. He was the only one to go into the water said Lt. Artero.

GFD got the call at 10:46am. GFD Rescue Units 1 & 2 responded. The reporting party lost site of the swimmer shortly after 11 am, said Lt. Artero.

USCG Search and Rescue Specialist Lee Putnam said the Coast Guard sent a response boat and the Navy’s HSC helicopter was also involved in the search.

The death of the young man was the second apparant drowning of the day.

About 7:30 am a man was pulled from the waters behind the Santa Fe Hotel in Tamuning.

Lt. Artero told PNC News the man appeared to be a Japanese tourist in his 40’s.

GMH Nursing Supervisor Josie Zamora said the man was pronounced dead at GMH just before 8 am Saturday.
