AAFB: Death of 13 Year Old Girl Remains Under Investigation; No Details Yet

Guam – Andersen Air Force Officials Monday could not provide any further details about the death Sunday of a 13 year old girl.

The girl suffered head trauma during a hike Sunday afternoon on property under Andersen’s control.

Andersen Spokesman,  Tech Sgt. Mike Andriacco, could not say where on Andersen the accident occurred or how it occurred.

The girl was reportedly amongst a group of hikers when a rock slide struck her. The girl was the daughter of an active duty Air Force member. The family has asked for privacy during this time of mourning.

Sgt. Andriacco would only say that no one else was injured and that the incident remains under investigation.

The girl was still alive when she arrived at Guam Memorial Hospital Sunday just after 5 pm, but Nursing Supervisor Sally Quichocho says attempts to revive her were not successful and the girl was pronounced dead at 5:45 pm Sunday.

Her death it is the third, and most serious hiking accident in as many months.

Guam Boonie Stomper’s David Lotz does not know the details of the latest incident, but he told PNC News that hikers should always take precautions,  know their limits and not take risks.
