Guam – A 16 year old teenager is being tried as an adult in connection with a machete attack on a 44 year old Chinese man last Thursday night.
16 year old Handarson Mwonuchan Sony was magistrated Saturday in Superior Court on charges of attempted murder and public drunkenness.
According to the magistrates complaint, GPD Officers responded to a call of an injured person at the Liheng Apartments on University Drive in Mangilao about 10 pm Thursday night. There they were met by 44 year old Yuhui Shi who was “bleeding profusely from his neck.” Shi had an 8-inch laceration starting on the left side of his neck and ending on his upper left chest.
A witness told Police that he saw Sony slash Shi with a machete. According to the complaint Sony “admitted that he struck one of several Chinese male individuals.” The motive for the attack is not clear, but the magistrates complaints states that Sony “appeared to be drunk, nervous and sweaty with eyes bloodshot red and watery and to include a strong smell of an intoxicating beverage emitting from his person and breath.”
On Friday, GPD Spokesman Officer A.J. Balajadia reported that Shi was talking on his cellular phone when he was attacked and that the 16 year old had also threatened three students near the UOG Science Building while holding a machete.
