Some $2.1 million worth of income tax refunds disbursed in 964 checks are being mailed Monday, according to the Department of Revenue and Taxation and the Department of Administration.
The tax refunds are for error-free returns filed on or before Feb. 15, 2019, including refunds garnished to repay government debts.
Adelup says it has caught up with income tax refunds and is now releasing refunds as quickly as possible
Governor Lou Leon Guerrero previously said her administration is processing and paying tax refunds at a similar pace to previous years, even though it has to do so with lesser resources.
As of Friday, Aug. 16, the governor said Adelup has already paid about $90 million in tax refunds so far,
“We paid more at this period than last year. We paid about $90 million already this fiscal year and we’re paying the refunds within our own financial means, without having to borrow money,” the governor told the Patti Arroyo show on NewsTalk K57.
By law, the Department of Revenue and Taxation is required to square away prior year returns before current refunds can begin.
The law also requires GovGuam to pay out refunds within six months of the deadline for filing.
