2 arrested on allegations of illegal fishing in Tumon Marine Preserve


Department of Agriculture conservation officers have arrested 2 people for illegal fishing Friday.

According to a news release from DOA, the conservation officers were conducting a check of the Tumon Marine Preserve while on night patrol last Friday.

At about 11:45 p.m., 49-year-old Hastig Dewey from Dededo and 58-year-old Pomen Ikins of Mangilao were arrested on allegations of illegally fishing in the Tumon Marine Preserve.

The officers confiscated 108 assorted reef fish, 1 octopus, 2 flashlights, 2 Hawaiian slings, 2 pairs of dive fins, 2 dive masks, and two 2 snorkels.

Conservation officers patrol the Marine Preserve Areas (MPAs) to protect fish habitat and our natural resources for us all.
