A shelter-in-place procedure was initiated at F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School.

Two schools in Yigo will be sprayed with insecticide over the weekend in response to the latest case of locally acquired dengue fever.

According to a release, the 11th case was identified to be a student attending F.B. Leon Guerrero Middle School and GDOE along with the Guam Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Public Health and Social Services will be treating the middle school campus as well as Simon Sanchez High School with insecticide to mitigate the spread of the virus.

The spraying of both campuses will take place over the weekend and classes will resume on Monday.

The public is reminded that dengue fever is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito and cannot be spread directly from person to person. To prevent the spread of the disease, residents can eliminate potential mosquito breeding sites, such as containers that can hold water.

In addition, a community meeting regarding dengue fever will take place in Yigo in November. The date, time, and location of the meeting will be announced at a later date.
