Guam- Express Signs advanced in the 40-plus division of the Golden Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament.
Last night, Express Signs defeated the Tamuning Typhoons and put the Typhoons in a win or go home situation.
The Typhoons were almost forced to shoot from behind the arc thanks to the towering presence of Fred Peters in the paint. It was also that presence that made outside shooting a gamble because if it was off the mark it usually ended up in Peters’ hands. This also eliminated the Typhoons from using quickness as a weapon.
Express Signs defeated the Tamining Typhoons 63-50. Peters was the top scorer for Signs with 24 points.
“I like our chances, if we have guys to show up and we do the things that got us here. If we don’t do things the fundamental way we might have a tough time…,” said Peters.
In the 20-plus division the Tamuning Typhoons defeated the Island Dragons 71-48. The Typhoons were led by Bruce Aguon and Edgardo Baza with 14 points apiece. For the Dragons, Victor Sablan also netted 14 points. The Typhoons advance to the semis and the Dragons drop into the elimination bracket.
Tournament playoff games continue tomorrow evening with action starting at 7:30 p.m.
