Guam- It was the Island Dragons who had more of a flame in last night’s Golden Hoops Classic Tournament. The Dragons defeated Guam Fire Department in the 30-plus division 63-48 in a second half game.
Both teams were colder than ice in the first half with most attempts missing the mark. Everything from lay ups to jumpers were not falling for the teams and the first half score was a meager 18-16 spread in favor of the Dragons.
The second half was where the Dragons started leveling out shots taken with shots made. With more conversions than Guam Fire the Dragons steadily doused any flame the firemen tried to start and mounted a lead that G.F.D. could not overcome. Dragons’ top shot Sandy Fejeran was scoreless throughout the first half and managed to put up 15 points in the end. Offensive boards also played a key role in the win with the big presence of Chris Shepperd in the paint.
Fejeran was the leading scorer for the Dragons. G.F.D.’s Matt Quinata had the game high 19 points. The Golden Hoops Classic continues tonight at the Tamuning Gym.
