Guam- For years the Academy Cougars have been struggling to get back to the volleyball powerhouse that it once was in the late eighties and nineties. Since then the Cougars have come close a few times and on paper looked like contenders for the title. But every season the Cougars somehow are a team to beat simply because of the team’s glorious past. Coach Ray Mantanona is back as head coach of the Cougars and is knows that building a champion team not only takes talent but time.
According to Mantanona the team has a good mixture of returnees and new players as well as players that moved up the ranks from the JV team. Academy may not be the powerhouse it used to be but they’re are definitely a team that can pull off upsets.
