Rivera Is Girl’s Volleyball MVP

Guam-  Rosheenaann Rivera is Miss MVP for the 2010-11 High School Girl’s Volleyball league.

Rivera is a senior at George Washington and is a major part of the force the has put the Geckos without a loss and a shot at being a five time championship team, in a row.  Two of Rivera’s teammates also made the All-Island first team, Tasha Palomo and Kara Guerrero.  This is Palomo’s second appearance in the prestigious list and Guerrero is the only one that’s not a senior on the first team. 

First Team

Setter: Kimberly Aquino (JFK senior)

Libero: Tasha Palomo (GW senior)

Right side Hitter: Olivia Flores (Academy senior)

Middle Blocker: Kara Guerrero (GW junior),  Regina Shiroma (Sanchez senior)

Outside Hitter: Rosheenaann Rivera (GW senior, MVP),  Gilda Oyardo (Sanchez senior)

 

Second Team

Setter: Kristin Oberiano (St. John’s junior)

Libero: Tamar Celis (Sanchez junior)

Right side Hitter: Maricon Villena (JFK junior)

Middle Blocker: Shanniqua Mendiola (Sanchez junior), Isabella Denight (Academy junior)

Outside Hitter: Audriana Cruz (Notre Dame senior), Maegan Crisostomo (St. John’s senior)

 

The playoffs for the league start this Friday with the quarterfinals.  The schedule is GAA Angels(6-10) at Sanchez(15-1), JFK Islanders(9-7) at Academy(11-5), ND Royals(8-8) at St. John’s(9-7), Okkodo Bulldogs(6-10) at GW(16-0). All games are at 6:00pm except for the Sanchez match which is at 5:00pm.  The winners will advance to the semifinals which are on Tuesday, Oct. 12.  Harvest(5-11), St. Paul(4-12), Gum High(4-12) and Southern High(3-13) failed to make the playoffs.
