Guam- There can only be one.
The George Washington Geckos are now the only undefeated team in high school girl’s volleyball. The four time defending champions served the Simon Sanchez Sharks their first loss of the season 25-15, 25-20.
The Lady Geckos are proving that players come and go but the game stays the same. Coach Bobbi Quinata’s stern style of coaching seems to be effective and the G.W. ladies always seem to be in control of the situation. And to simply put it ‘get the job done’.
The first set had Purple and Gold written all over it. After G.W. took the lead early in the set the Sharks dug themselves into a very deep hole because they had trouble returning serves. And when the Sharks finally gained a side out they had trouble serving. Almost all their serves caught the net in the first set.
The Sharks finally got serves over the net in the second set and gave the Geckos somewhat of a chase. But the Geckos put themselves at match point with the Sharks down by seven. The Sharks tried to rally but that was nearly impossible.
The Geckos are now 8-0 while the Sharks fall to 6-1.
