Guam- The fight for five is very much alive. The George Washington Geckos girl’s volleyball team is now 11-0 after defeating the Southern High Dolphins(3-8) in straight sets last night at the GW gym.
The defending champs controlled the middle and had no problems dismantling the Dolphins. Kara Guerrero is always present in the middle and controlled the net well. The Dolphins on the other hand were one step too late in the front and could not dig the Geckos’ outside shots as well as shots down the middle. The Geckos defeated the Dolphins 25-16, 25-18.
Since the Geckos are the only undefeated team in the league they are clearly the front runners for the title. And if they do survive the playoffs all the way to the top prize, this will be the fifth title in a row for the school.
In the locker room after the match coach Bobbi Quinata told her team, “Don’t take the fun out of the game… you had a spectacular, awesome practice yesterday… and how you do at practice is how you will do in the game.”
The Geckos will travel to Notre Dame to challenge the Royals this Friday.
