Guam – The A.K. Islanders offense quickly went to work and never stopped and the Islanders clinched a postseason berth in the Budweiser Baseball League after dispatching the Saipan Cyclones 12-3 in last night’s Budweiser baseball game.
AK went up 5-0 after three innings thanks to numerous Saipan miscues on defense. Thanks to three straight RBI doubles in the first inning. The Cyclones got three runs in the top of the fifth to cut the Isladers lead to two runs but that wouldn’t stop the bleeding. All season long the Islanders have successfully found openings in the defense and hit the ball in the gaps to put runners in scoring positions throughout the ballgame.
With the win the Islanders improve to 10-2 and a game ahead of the Braves. This is the Cyclones 10 straight loss. Mateo Matanane was given the win and got 1 strikeout. John Pangelinan came in as a relief and sat down 5. Dominic Cruz was perfect at the plate and went 5-5 with 2 runs and a ribi. Miller Santos was 1-5 with a run and a ribi and Chad Palomo was 1-3 with a run and a ribi.
Saipan’s Vicente Camacho went 1-4 with a run and a ribi along with Gerome Mira.
Tonight the Paradise Fitness Junior Nationals will take on Team Belau. Game starts at seven at the Paseo Stadium.
