Guam -There’s a first time for everything and last night there was a whole lot of it.  It was the debut of the Saipan Cyclones and Team Belau in the Budweiser Baseball League.

Saipan got their first run in the Budweiser Baseball League in the first inning.  With a runner on third Donovan George smacked one deep into right field which lands him on second and allows a run to jog in.  Belau’s defense would end the inning.

Belau also scored their first run of the league in the first inning.  Benito Borja was at the plate and blasted one to left field.  It looked like it was going the distance but it wasn’t enough to get over the wall.  That shot sends the runner from first to home plate to tie the game.

Belau would get 2 runs in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead and they would hold onto that lead until the sixth inning where Saipan got 2 runs.  The wheels came off the wagon for Belau in the 8th when Saipan got 5 runs off 3 hits and 4 Belau errors.

Final score of the ballgame was 11-4, giving Saipan its first win in the league and a win to start off the season.

Aaron Sanchez got the win with 9 strikeouts for the night.  Jonathan Jones also stepped on the mound for Saipan and got 5 strikeouts.  Sanchez went 2-2 at the plate with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  Donovan George went 3-5 with 2 ribis and Clynt Cruz was 3-5 with 3 runs.

Ryan Egino was creditted with the loss and 2Ks.  Hamilton Jackson recorded 4 strikeouts for Belau.  Mike Cruz was 1-2 with a run and a ribi and Benito Borja finished 1-4 and a ribi.

Tomorrow night’s baseball game is between the Agana Heights Docomo Reds and the Bank of Guam A’s.  Game starts at 7 in the evening at the Paseo Stadium.
