Guam – It was a long game to say the least in last night’s Budweiser Baseball League. The lights went out for a moment, there was a short rain delay and a whole lot of walks. The strike zone was very tight in last night’s game, forcing pitchers to throw it straight down the pipe and may have inadvertently caused the first grand slam of the season.
The Reds were up 2-1 and in the top of the second JR Hattig is offered a pitch down the pipe and puts up the first grand slam of the season, making it a 6-1 ballgame.
With pitches coming down the pipe, the bats blew open for the Braves in the bottome of the fourth. Down 6-4 the Braves knock in 7 runs on 5 hits to take the lead. The Reds would then tie the game 11-11 in the fifth with 5 runs off 2 hits.
A couple of more runs for both teams would end the game at 15-13 after 8 1/2 innings.
Tony Yatar was given the win and had 2 strikeouts for the night. Barry Nauta got the loss and recorded 5Ks.
The Braves now improve to 4-1. JT Tuquero went 2-5 with 3 runs and 3 RBIs, Glenn Fernandez went 2-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs, Alan Sarmiento was 1-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs and Jared Palomo went 2-4 with a run and 3 RBIs.
The Reds now fall to 2-3. Barry Nauta went 1-3 with 2 runs and a RBI, JR Hattig was 2-6 with 2 runs, 4 RBIs and a Grand Slam. Jess Lujan was 1-5 with a run and Lynwood Baker finished 1-4 with 2 runs.
The Braves, A’s and Islanders are 4-1.
