Guam – Derwin Aguon sat down six batters last night with the A’s and the Reds and the season’s first mercy rule game. Aguon’s arm coupled with solid hitting from the A’s ballclub and an Alejandro Diaz homer dropped the Reds to a lowly 0-2 start and puts the A’s in everybody’s radar.
Diaz, Matt Muna and Randy Alcantara brought their big boy bats and drove in most of the runs.
The A’s started strong stepping up to the plate first and scored 5 runs off of 2 hits followed by Diaz’s homerun in the second. After 5 and a half innings the score was already 11-0.
The Reds didn’t get their first run of the game until the bottom of the fifth and if that was any sign of hope for the Reds, the A’s quickly killed that dream. In the top of the sixth the A’s knocked in 5 runs on 4 hits to take another leap forward.
The A’s defeated the Reds 17-3 and improve to 2-0 while the Reds fall to 0-2. Derwin Aguon got the win on the mound with 6 strikeouts. Matt Muna went 2-3 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs. Randy Alcantara was 2-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBIs and alejandro Diaz was 1-2 with that one hit being a homer, he also finished with 3 runs and 2 RBIs.
Angelo Taijeron was given the loss and he had one strikeout. JR Hattig went 1-3 with a run for the Reds. Despite the score Reds relief pitchers Matthew Cook and Mike Peredo both had 2Ks.
Tonight’s ballgame is between the Paradise Fitness Junior Nationals and the Moylan’s ODC Braves. Last season the Nats gave the Braves their first regular season loss and the Braves ended up sweeping the Nats in the playoffs. The game starts at 7pm.
