A’s Rally Past AK 4-3, Take Top Spot

Guam – The fight for first ended up in the hands of the Bank of Guam A’s after two crucial AK Islanders errors in the bottom of the ninth sent the tying and winning run home.

AK was the first to light up the scoreboard with a run off three hits in the first inning.  The 1-0 score would remain that way up until the bottom of the seventh when the Bank took a 2-1 lead with 2 runs off two hits. But that would be short lived.

In the top of the 8th, AK retook the lead with an earned run and a run off an error to make it a 3-2 ballgame.

In the bottom of the ninth, the A’s would be blessed with two back to back throwing errors to first that allows the tying and winning run to cross home plate.

The 4-3 win puts the A’s in sole possession of first with an 8-1 record and drops AK to 7-2 with the Braves.  Kareem Mortin was put on the mound in the ninth inning and was awarded the win with 1 strikeout.  Freddy Cepeda started on the mound for the A’s and got 5 Ks.  Alejandro Diaz went 1-3 with a run, Tim Muna finished 2-4 with a run and a ribi and Shon Muna, Jr. drove in a run.  Brothers Joe and John Pangelinan were once again the arms of choice for AK.  Joe was given the loss with 1 K.  John started and got 5Ks.  Dominic Cruz went 2-5 with a run, Pat Alvarez was 1-3 with a run and Miller Santos went 3-4 with two RBIs.

Tomorrow night the 76 Bank Pacific Cougars will play the Paradise Fitness Junior Nationals.  Game starts at 7 in the evening at Paseo Stadium.
