Guam – Defense problems plagued the 76/Bank Pacific Cougars early in the game but the Cougars settled down and started to play baseball.
In the third inning the Paradise Fitness Junior Nationals looked as if they were going to start a rally but a 2, 3 double play by the Cougars saves the inning to keep the game scoreless. In the next inning the Nats catch a break. A throwing error to first and a past ball advances a runner to third. Another wild pitch later, the runner crosses home plate to make it a 1-0 ballgame.
The Nats would get a 2-0 lead at the end of five innings but after tying the game in the seventh inning the Cougars would get 3 runs off 3 hits in the top of the ninth to cap the nights scoring.
“I’m really proud of my pitching from Jonathan Barnes and Frankie Barnes. We had timely hitting… defensively we were kinda shaky in the beginning but after a while we just settled down and it there was a really outstanding double play by our first baseman Jesse Alerta,” said Cougars Manager Kin Reyes, who also said it’s great to start at 3-0.
The Cougars are now only one of two teams undefeated at 3-0 with this 5-2 victory overt the Jr. Nats. Nats fall to 0-3. Frank Barnes got the win with one strikeout. Jonathan Barnes also stepped on the mound and got 6 strikeouts. Mark paulino ended the night 2-4 with 2 RBIs and a double. Colby Barnes was 1-4 with a ribi and Darrel Masnayon was 0-1 with a run. For the Nats, Richard Ward went 2-4 with a run and Mike Castro was given the loss.
Tomorrow night’s game is featuring the Agana Heights docomo Reds and Team Belau. Both teams are 0-2 so one team is walking away with their first win of the season. Game starts at 7 in the evening at Paseo Stadium.
