AK Holds Off Cougars, Stay A Half Game Ahead Of Braves

Guam – The AK Islanders held down a surging 76 Bank Pacific Cougars.  When the Islanders seemed to have a comfortable lead the Cougars would rally to stay in the game.  AK was the first to get on the board and looked to have control of the game until the Cougars tied the game at 5 in the third inning.

After which AK would place the ball in the gaps to grab the lead again and never relinquish it.  The Cougars would always stay within three runs but would end the inning with the go ahead run at the plate or on base.

“I’m glad to escape with a win.  It’s very difficult to play the bottom half teams and try to maintain the same intensity level as playing the upper half teams.  So any time that you can claw your way out with a win and scratch and do whatever it takes is a big plus,” said AK Manager Willie Brennan.

With the 13-9 win AK holds on to the second place spot at 8-2 with the Braves a half game behind.  Isaac Cruz was awarded the win and recorded 4 strikeouts.  Jim Reyes went 4-6 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.  Miller Santos finished 2-6 with 3 RBIs and JQ Quintanilla was 4-5 with 3 runs and a ribi.

Joshua Aguigui got the loss with 1 K.  Boomer Fejeran went 2-6 with a run and 2RBIs and Colby Barne was 4-5 with 3 runs.  Relief pitcher Rick Fernandez finished with 4 strikeouts.

Tomorrow night the Moylan’s ODC Braves will face the Agana Heights Docomo Reds. Game starts at 7 at the Paseo Stadium.
