Adult Soccer League Starts Sunday, Feb.20

Guam – The Budweiser Guam Men’s Soccer League and the Bud Light Women’s Soccer League are gearing up for their respective action-packed seasons, as 31 teams from both leagues will start matches this weekend.

The women are up first as the BLWSL kicks off on Sunday with the defending champions Barrigada Strykers – now known as the 76 Strykers – taking on Quality Distributors at 3 p.m.  The Orange Crushers, last year’s runners-up, and newcomers ASC Islanders will follow at 5 p.m. while the dck Masters/Hyundai match will kick off at 7 p.m. Pretzel Makers Bombers and Guahan.com will complete the first round of matches on Wednesday at 7 p.m. and the league’s other team Guam Shipyard has the first bye.

On the men’s side, Division 2 will be the first to start with Sinajana Ambassadors taking on Big Blue at 7 p.m. with Strykers and Rovers following at 9 p.m. Other D2 matches will be played on Friday and Saturday nights at the same times. Division 3, holding a 40-and-over age requirement, will be played on Thursday nights at the same time, with Rovers FC and Toyota 4Runners playing first and Samurai Strykers/Big Blue following.

The action heats up Feb. 27 as Division 1 matches kick off, with Guam Shipyard and Carpet Masters opening the season at 4 p.m. All eyes will be on 2010 Budweiser Fall Classic tournament winners Cars Plus FC as they take on defending league champions Quality Distributors FC at 6 p.m. The Benjamin Moore Strykers and Fuji Ichiban Espada FC will complete the round at 8 p.m.

The leagues were thrown off their normal schedules due to the upgrade of the lower field to artificial turf, which will see its first official matches during this weekend’s youth league matches.
