Guam – There was no redemption for the defending champs in the Miller Football League. The second meeting of the Cars Plus Rams and the Shell Hal’s Angels ended with another Rams win and what is perhaps a clear sign of things to come. The Rams defense would come up big in red zone situations and the Angels defense also picked off Brant McCreadie 3 times in the game but the Angels offense could not capitalize on those turnovers.
Right before the first half ended McCreadie connected with Eddie Calvo on the right sidelines to put the Rams up by 6-0 to end the half. Roque Martinez came up big and converted an Angels fumble in the end zone in what looked like a sack but was ruled a touchdown. That score was followed by a touchdown on the ground by the young and scrappy Jesse Manglona which puts the Rams up by three TDs with no PATs.
The Angels would later score and successfully convert a 2 point conversion in the fourth with barely enough time for one more touchdown let alone two.
“That was an awesome game, we made a lot of mistakes in the beginning which cost us and we picked it up in the end. Defense for the Angels is really good but our defense, as you saw today, scored for us so that made a huge difference,” McCreadie said, “I don’t really care about the standings. I know it’s a cliche but we just take one game at a time and then we’ll see where it goes at the end of the season.”
McCreadie finished the day with 10 completions on 23 attempts and 136 yards. He threw three interceptions and one TD for the Rams. Steve Philliips went 11-29, 104 yards, one interception and a touchdown.
Eddie Ko was the leading receiver for the Rams with 5 receptions for 53 yards. Eddie Calvo had two receptions, one of which was a touchdown. Josh Bulla led the Angels receivers with 49 yards on 6 receptions and Mike Meno caught the 3 yard touchdown pass.
Jess Manglona led the Rams on the ground and pumped out 52 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown. SP led the Angels with 11 carries for 37 yards.
The Rams defeated the Angels 18-8 and with this win the Rams are now 4-0 while the defending champs fall to 1-3 with their only win coming from the Docomo Chargers.
The Pepsi Warriors have a stronghold on second after dismantling the Docomo Chargers 38-6. It was also the Chargers first touchdown of the season.
