Barretto Starts Monsoon Series In Front

Guam – Round 1 of the scheduled six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series kicked off this past Sunday out at our islands Guam International Raceway under perfect weather conditions for racing. The six round series caters its program towards the first time racer and those looking to improve they’re motocross skills. The racing kicked off at just before 2pm and saw several classes that included kid’s classes all the way up to the big guns in both the two and four wheeled classes.

Highlights
Open Motorcycle
#59 Caleb Barretto aboard the Cycles Plus Honda Crf450 the 2011 Monster Energy Guam Motocross Champion in the Open and 450cc Motorcycle classes wasn’t going to sit out of the series. Barretto took the lead and pulled away in both the two 5 lap heats on an extended course layout that included much of the Shell V-Power Smokin Wheels layout to take the round 1 win. #915 Anthony Ignacio aboard a Yamaha Yzf250 along with Kawasaki mounted #42 JR Cepeda battled it out for second and third with Ignacio taking second and Cepeda finishing in third. Fourth place went to Cycles Plus team rider #5 Shawn Aguilo aboard a Kawasaki Kxf250 with fifth place going to Yamaha mounted #88 Gary Camacho. Also putting in a strong ride were Kawasaki mounted Nolan Minor and Honda mounted Zachary Chang finishing sixth and seventh respectively.

The 250 young guns have arrived!  In the 250cc Motorcycle class Anthony Ignacio took the win aboard his Yamaha Yzf250 with Kawasaki mounted JR Cepeda hot on his heels in second. Third went #5 Shawn Aguilo with #88 Gary Camacho and Nolan Minor taking fourth and fifth respectively.

Open Atv
In the big gun four wheeled class the Open Atvs saw yet another dominating performance from the young guns of the class. 15 year old young gun #9 Ramon Torres took his Suzuki Ltr450 to a second and a first place finish in his two 5 lap extended course heats to take the round 1 win. Taking second was vet racer #671 Andy Painter aboard a Honda Trx400 with young gun #5 Marcus Guerrero Jr taking third. Matt Cruz put on an amazing ride aboard a Honda Foreman utility quad to take fourth with #22 Duce Romias taking fifth on his Yamaha Yfz450.

Kids 85cc Minibike
#29 Andrew Ignacio aboard his Yamaha Yz85 swept both motos but was kept honest as second place finisher #98 Suzuki mounted Marshal Vawters jr. was constantly putting pressure on the leader in both of the heats.

Kids Open Mini Atv
#5 Colin Ray Cruz this years Monster Energy Rookie Rider award winner made his way up to the front of the pack in both heats aboard his Drx70 to take the overall win.  #3 Bernabe Guerrero also aboard a very quick Drx70 took second with #75 Jesse Leon Guerrero taking third. Jeric Johnson on a Drx90 took fourth with #23 Jordan Leon Guerrero taking fifth also on a Drx90. Also putting in strong rides were #21 Dylan Baza on a Suzuki 90 taking sixth, #99 Victoria Clark on a 90cc Drx in seventh. #4 Janissa Torres was unable to start the first heat but came back strong to win the second heat to finish eight overall aboard her Haul Pro Apex90.

#75 Jesse Leon Guerrero took the win with his brother Jordan Leon Guerrero taking second both aboard the Drx90 machines. Taking third in class was Jeric Johnson also aboard a Drx90.

70cc kids Atv
#5 Colin Ray Cruz dominated easily taking the round win in class on his Drx70. Taking second early leader #3 Bernabe Guerrero took second aboard a Drx70.

Round 2 of the six round Cycles Plus Honda Monsoon Motocross Series will be held on Sunday, October 9th at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo.
