Guam – The MVP Stars finally got their first lose of the PABL season against the very aggressive Andersen Bombers.
The Stars got off to a fast start with a 12-4 run against the Bombers causing the Bomb Squad to call an early timeout. The timeout proved to be effective and the first quarter ended tied at 20.
The Bombers swarmed last year’s MVP, JP Cruz, with a double team but Cruz still managed to pop in 27 points which still wasn’t enough to overcome the Bomb squad. With four minutes left on the clock the Stars committed 3 turnovers caused by the aggressive Bombers defense and Gerald Jones fouled out early in the fourth.
The Andersen Bombers defeated MVP Stars 86-76. Bombers’ Nicholas Welch ended with 22 points and 13 rebounds and teammate JP Phillips nailed the same amount of points. JP Cruz was the leader for the Stars with 27 points.
The National Team is now the only undefeated team in the League.
In the other matches that day the Sr. National Team beat Docomo/DLX All stars 79-49, Big Navy over Island Defenders 94-54, Express Signs edged SPPC Circle K 71-70 and the MVP Stars beat Fuetsa 88-22 in the women’s division.
Games for the PABL continue on June 5.
