Guam- The Annual Budweiser True GRIT (Guam International Rugby Tournament) will be held this weekend, Saturday February 12th and Sunday February 13th, from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm both days, at the Wettengel Rugby Field in Dededo.
Nine (9) Teams will be competing, including eight (8) teams from Guam and one (1) team from Japan. Both mens’ and womens’ teams will be represented.
Games run throughout the day on Saturday and Sunday, with Semi-Finals beginning at 1pm on Sunday, and Finals beginning at 3:30pm.
The tournament is open to the public and admission is free. Food and drinks are available for purchase at the field, including great food from California Pizza Kitchen, fruit, chips, and non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages. Also available for sale will be souvenir t-shirts etc. Outside coolers are not allowed.
Tournament magazines will be available for free at Shell stations across the island from Monday February 7th, and include a short article, “ Understanding Rugby” , for those new to the game, along with a Schedule of Events.
Wettengel Rugby Field is located beside Wettengel Elementary School. To get there, travel North along Marine Corps. Dr. Go past Micronesia Mall then turn left across from the Mobil (“ Fatima Mobil” ) on the corner. You will see a sign, “ Hafa Adai Rugby Fans” .
The Guam Rugby Club (GRC) was incorporated in 1995 as a non-profit organization. 100% of the proceeds from the tournament go towards the community development of the Wettengel Rugby Facility for future generations.
