2012 Quality Cup: John-Nadler Dispatch Gaston-Elizaga


Guam – Quick, tough net play separated the winning teams from those eliminated in 2012 Quality Cup tennis tournament doubles action at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa tennis courts.

No. 4 seeded David John and partner Landon Nadler needed just about an hour to dispatch junior opponents Calvin Gaston and Romel Elizaga, 6-2, 6-0 in a Men’s 4.0 doubles match.

The next court over was vacated in similar time. No. 4 Sam Lai and Jimmy Tsang shut out the father-son duo of Jose and Jeremiah Gallego, 6-0, 6-0 for a quarterfinal berth in the Men’s 4.5 doubles division.

Pete Cepeda and partner Jeff Bristol pick up win No. 1 in the round robin format of the Men’s 55+ doubles division. Cepeda and Bristol defeated Jan Rudolph and Bob Schlub, 6-1, 6-3, and will have a chance to win the division against Ricardo Estella and Rick Ninete at 8 a.m. Sunday at the Hilton.

In the women’s division, juniors Tess Suh and partner Ira Triz Cubi advanced in the draw after dispatching Charlene Catunao and Leilani Uncangco 6-2, 6-1. Suh and Cubi will next face No. 3 Angella Chang and Christina Song at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Rick Ninete Tennis Center in Hagatna for a place in the quarterfinals of the Women’s 2.0 doubles division.

Quality Cup tennis action continues Saturday at the Hilton, the Sheraton Laguna Guam Resort tennis courts and RNTC. The division draws and match schedules are posted at all three locations.
