2018 Thanksgiving HoopFest Basketball Tournament presented by Bank of Guam set to begin Saturday, November 17.  With the holidays around the corner basketball youths know its HoopFest time and the action takes place at Tamuning Gym. Opening games are scheduled for Saturday with tip-off at 11am in the 8 and under division.

This year’s tournament hosts teams ages 5 to 18 years old. Off island teams participating this year are Youth Basketball Club (YBC) Manila and Faith Academy Batangas from Manila. “The kids are so excited and can’t wait to get to Guam to play,” messaged YBC Head Coach Rensy Bajar. YBC returns to defend their 14 and under 2017 championship title.

The Tinian Typhoons basketball club scheduled to appear was forced to cancel their participation due to damages from Typhoon Yutu. A canned good drive will take place at Tamuning Gym during the games to assist the Tinian club families on their road to recovery.

Stepping outside of the military zone is the Navy Youth Basketball Club who will make their first appearance in this event. “It’s going to be an exciting and fun time for the kids on the court,” stated tournament coordinator Elsa Ulloa.

HoopFest games will be played daily thru November 24. With the day of champions on November 25. Awards will be presented after each division championship game for first, second, MVP and top scorer.

The 14th annual event is presented by Bank of Guam. This year’s divisions include Turkey Hop (8 under coed); Turkey Trot (10 under coed); Turkey Dash (12 under coed); Turkey Run (14 under competitive), Turkey Fly (16 under competitive) and Turkey Shoot (18 under competitive).

Tournament will use a double elimination format with a winner take all at the championship game for teams with less then 2 losses.
