Saipan – A 22-year-old Marine from Saipan is the latest soldier from the CNMI to give his life in the war on terror.
The Saipan Tribune reports that Marine Lance Corporal Ramon Taisacan Kaipat, from Garapan, died as a result of “multiple injuries” from an improvised explosive device while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
Acording to the website freedomremembered.com : “Kaipat enlisted in the Marine Corp on September 22, 2008. This was his second deployment to Afghanistan. He has been decorated with the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the NATO Medal-ISAF Afghanistan.“
He was a member of a dismounted unit that was struck by an IED while on combat patrol. He served in the 1st Marine Division out of Camp Pedleton in California.
Kaipat is survived by his parents Pete Somorang Kaipat and Sinforosa Taisacan Kaipat and a younger brother and an older sister.
Kaipat is the 16th service member from the Commonwealth to die in the line of duty since the 9-11 attacks.
