Guam- The Soroptimist International of Guam has teamed up with the Sorensen Media Group (SMG) to showcase some of the island’s most talented women this Friday, August 9.
During a media conference this afternoon [Wednesday] at the Sheraton Laguna Resort, a panel of organizers and sponsors came together to announce the details of the 2nd annual “Silibrasion Famalo’an.” The event contains a special benefit concert by the all female band, Dollhouse, and 20 other female artists. They will performing songs made famous by male artists with a female twist. The show will also feature an art exhibit by local women artists, a silent auction and a multi-course dinner.
Immediate Past President Lou Sablan says what makes this event so unique is that it is generated by women, performed by women and will help women and girls.
“We’re buying local and we’re supporting local talent, encouraging them when there is a craft and their skill, not only the musicians and singers but also the artists that will be displaying their work,” said Sablan. “I know there are other art exhibits around that they can attend but to belong to exclusively a women’s art show. It has its weight.”
The event is already sold out and features a theme of the roaring 20’s. Scholarships will also be awarded. It will be from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Sheraton Laguna Resort on Friday.
