Earlier this morning, a man reported to have briefly escaped from the Department of Corrections facility in Mangilao was later captured.
At approximately 5 am this morning, detainee KD Arason checked in the Hagatna detention facility for processing as a new confinee. However, due to his refusal to participate in the covid test as part of quarantine measures, Arason was transferred from the Hagatna Detention Facility to a quarantine unit in Mangilao.
The Guam Police Department informed the Department of Corrections of a concerned individual report of a person seen on the outer perimeter possibly escaping. After officers checked the quarantine unit, it was discovered that detainee Arason was unaccounted for.
An institutional lockdown was initiated, and the Special Operations Response Team was deployed to search and apprehend the detainee. At 9:15 am, detainee Arason was apprehended and released to the custody of the Guam Police Department for further investigation.
