Rodney Cruz, Jr. filed for senatorial candidacy this afternoon at the Guam Election Commission. Cruz is a three tour combat veteran and fought for our country, with tours of duty in Operation Iraqi Freedom, the Global War on Terrorism and Operation Enduring Freedom.
Now as a combat disabled veteran and U.S. Army Retired Staff Sergeant, Cruz fights to make sure that veterans here on Guam are provided the care and support they have earned.
“Several initiatives that I will put forward will help enhance Veteran services and reward agricultural and aquaculture industries. I will place renewed emphasis on improving our educational, public safety and healthcare systems. I want to help improve our quality of life while preserving who we are as an island community,” Cruz noted.
Chairman of the Democratic Party of Guam, Senator Rory J. Respicio said, “Rodney Cruz brings an energy and dedication to helping people that makes him a great candidate for the Democratic Party and will make him a great Senator for the people of Guam. He has a very compelling personal story of service to our country as a veteran and service to our community as local advocate on veterans issues,” he explained, “I first met Rodney at GCC student forums and after listening to his story and his deep concern for issues that matter to working families, I encouraged him to run for public office. His candidacy sends a strong message to our veterans that their issues will continue to remain at the forefront of the Democratic Party’s agenda.”
Governor Carl T.C. Gutierrez said, “Rodney Cruz is a proud son of Guam who has served his country with distinction and honor. He is now ready and willing to serve the people of Guam. I encourage everyone to come out and vote for Rodney who will be a dedicated and committed Senator for all the people.”
Cruz started the Iraq-Afghanistan and Persian Gulf Veterans of the Pacific non-profit organization which looks to improve the lives of veterans post-service, especially vets most in need, such as homeless veterans.
As a father of five children, Cruz resides in Ironwood Estates in the village of Dededo and with the backing of his fiancé Ashley Certeza Cruz, his children and family, friends and supporters; he is now seeking your support and vote so that he can serve our island community as a member of the 33rd Guam Legislature.
