Racing enthusiasts, brace yourselves as this weekend comes the 40th annual Smokin’ Wheels event, promising fun and excitement for the whole family.
The Guam International Raceway will hold the 40th annual APL Smokin’ Wheels off-road event starting April 21 through April 23.
During the event, car enthusiasts can enjoy car shows, drag races, drifting, ATV’s, off- road buggies, a BBQ competition, among other things.
The event has gained recognition locally and internationally, putting “Guam on the map”. Professional racers from Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the U.S. come to the island every year to compete.
I got an off-road ride around the raceway in a Kawasaki side by side. The ride got a little bumpy, and there were rocks and dust all about, but I could understand why racers love this sport so much. It’s just fun!
As the Pacific News Center reported previously reported, this event was made possible thanks to a request by Democrat Speaker Therese Terlaje for a 90 day extension to the eviction notice the Guam International Raceway received from the Chamorro Land Trust Commission.
This year might be the last time the raceway will be able to hold this event.
If the legislature does not pass Bill 56-37, which aims to legally classify the racetrack land as a Community Recreation Facility and transfer authority over it to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Admission is only $15 dollars and tickets are on sale at all Foody’s locations.
