Guam TaeKwonDo Takes Home Medals

Guam – The Guam Taekwondo Federation sent 6 Taekwondo students, Kristian Gueco, Larry Pillman, Vincent Garrido, Stephen Charfauros, Kevin Na, and Terrence Lapitan to compete in the 4th Oceania Taekwondo Championships in Noumea, New Caledonia.  The students came back with 8 medals, consisting of one gold, 4 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Gueco, a student from Minor’s TKD School, won the gold medal for Guam in the heavy weight division in the Junior Sparring event. Charfauros won a silver medal in the Junior sparring event in the under 73 kgs division. Garrido won the bronze medal in the same event. Na, from Kontenda’s Gym, won the bronze medal in the under 55 kgs in the Junior Sparring event.

All the students also participated in the POOMSE (Forms) event and the team of Lapitan, Garrido and Charfauros won the silver medal. Na won the bronze medal in the individual event of the POOMSE.

All the Guam students competing in Oceania immensely benefited from the events as they will find the same competitors from the other Pacific countries in the coming 2011 Pacific Games which are also in New Calendonia.
