6 Injured, 2 Critical, In New Year’s Day Crash

Guam – 6 people were injured on New Years Day in a 2 vehicle collision on Marine Corp Drive in East Hagatna.

It happened just before noon Saturday, New Year’s Day.

Guam Police Officer Allan Guzman told PNC News that a white, northbound pickup truck apparently crossed the medium just before the Alupang Beach Towers and crashed into an oncoming southbound grey IWS pickup truck.

The driver of the International Wines & Spirits pickup truck was treated and released for minor injuries. He was the only occupant of that vehicle.

However, in the white pickup, there were 2 people in the cab and 4 in the back bed of the pickup. All of them were males and all of them were taken to the Guam Memorial Hospital.

“They were spilled all over the road,” said Officer Guzman.

GMH Nursing Supervisor Jo Eustaquio says that 2 of the men are in critical condition and the other 3 men were still being examined in the Emergency Room for their injuries as of Saturday afternoon.

A handgun was found in the front of the white pickup and taken into evidence by police.

Officer Guzman says that speed, alcohol and lack of seat belts are all being examined as factors in the crash.
