Guam-“Out Of the Darkness, Our Community Walks”…that’s the theme for this year’s candle light vigil to remember victims and survivors of suicide. The annual event will take place at the Micronesia Mall this weekend without the race portion.
According to Lifeworks Executive Director Marie Halloran, suicide is the 5th leading cause of death on Guam, but she wants that to change. Her organization has partnered with other businesses to spread awareness on this issue and show there is hope to prevent the causes of suicide. Halloran says she wants people to know it’s ok to talk about it.
“Our aim in this project is to make an awareness that suicide can be helped and to also give support to our survivors that we are there and we’re there for them and we would like to help out” said Holloran.
The 6th Annual Lifeworks Candle Light Vigil Walk starts this Saturday, September 18 at 5:15 am. It’s followed by a Memory Tree and memorial service at the Micronesia Mall. Refreshments will be provided.
