70 test positive for COVID-19; community outreach in Dededo

The Joint Information Center has reported 70 new cases of COVID-19. Of the 70 newly confirmed cases, 34 cases were identified through contact tracing. Two (2) cases reported recent travel and were identified in quarantine.

To date, there have been a total of 6,416 officially reported cases of COVID-19 with 101 deaths, 1,892 cases in active isolation and 4,423 not in active isolation.

As of November 19, 2020, the COVID Area Risk (CAR) Score is 19.0. The CAR Score accounts for the incidence of new cases, how well current testing identifies these cases, and the rate of spread. Special Note: Beginning next week, the Department of Public Health and Social Services (DPHSS) will shift from daily situation reports to weekly reports in order to provide for more comprehensive data analysis. To reflect this, the Joint Information Center (JIC) will report profiles of confirmed cases on a weekly basis only. COVID-19 test results and other key data will continue to be reported on a daily basis.

Rapid Engagement Team Community Outreach in Piga & NCS, Dededo

The Department of Public Health and Social Services’ (DPHSS) Rapid Engagement Team (RET), in partnership with the Office of the Governor, Dededo Mayor’s Office, FSM Consulate Office, State Surgeon Cell, Guam Homeland Security, Guam National Guard, Department of Public Works, Guam Fire Department, Guam Police Department, FSM Association of Guam, and other agencies, will be mobilizing in the subdivisions of Piga and NCS, Dededo, on Sunday, November 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The mission of the RET is to visit three apartment complexes in NCS and one subdivision in Piga, and engage all the residents living there. RET nurses and support staff will visit residents in their homes and offer COVID-19 testing as well as other wraparound services, such as supplies and educational material.

The RET Mobile Command Post and Mobile Lab will be set up at the Astumbo Community Center next to the Astumbo Fire Station.

Correction of GDOE Reported Cases

On Wednesday, November 18, 2020, the Guam Department of Education (GDOE) reported that two GDOE employees from Wettengel Elementary School tested positive for COVID-19. However, further review revealed that only one COVID-19 case was confirmed from Wettengel Elementary School on November 18. The GDOE will continue to work to improve the accuracy and timelines of reporting of COVID-19 cases through collaboration with schools, the central office, DPHSS, and the Joint Information Center.

For those feeling anxious, stressed, overwhelmed or are needing to talk to someone, GBHWC has experienced providers available and ready to assist the community with any heightened stress and anxiety experienced as a result of COVID-19.
