Guam – The Guam Visitors Bureau (GVB) says 9 new businesses and organizations will take the Hafa Adai pledge at the 9th signing ceremony this morning at 10 this morning in the GVB conference room in Tumon.
The 9 new businesses taking the pledge are Buzz Café, Calvo’s Insurance, G-Crew Maintenance, Guam Federation of Teachers (GFT), Guam Preservation Trust, Pacific Sports Network, PBS Guam, Sling Shot Guam, and United Tire are scheduled to sign commitments.
A component of the Guam Branding Initiative, the Håfa Adai Pledge program has created a platform for local businesses to incorporate the Chamorro culture in everyday office practices. Employees from organizations who plan to sign on Wednesday will join more than 5,000 in other companies already participating in the community branding initiative.
“This program has helped our visitors and local residents embrace our unique culture in their everyday lives. Now our island’s Håfa Adai spirit is on display at restaurants where we eat, hotels where our visitors stay, our places of work, schools, and even the websites we visit,” said GVB General Manager Gerald S.A. Perez. “We are pleased to welcome this group into the program and look forward to seeing how they will incorporate the Håfa Adai spirit into their business.”
The Håfa Adai Pledge differs with each company based on corporate guidelines and goals. It can mean integrating simple gestures like greeting customers with “Håfa Adai” and displaying the Guam brand signature mark in their business letterhead, or as extensive as adopting a Chamorro language instruction program for employees. Many companies have adopted Håfa Adai Fridays, and increased their support of local handicrafts and performing artists.
