Climbing Mt. Jumullong Manglo – A Good Friday Tradition

295

Guam – Following a Good Friday tradition hundreds of island Christians made the annual Good Friday trek up Mt. Jumullong Manglo in a demonstration of their devotion to their faith.

Some in organized groups from various Churches, other on their own began the trek up the 1,283 foot mountain before dawn this morning.

Re-enactments of the suffering of Christ have become a traditional part of the solemn ceremony.

One group of about a dozen carried a 600 pound wounded cross up the mountain. A pair of men, their faces wrapped in black cloth, flagellated themselves.

Many others prayed the stations of the cross on the way up the mountain top.

When they got there, many continued to pray, or enjoy the view of the island on this Good Friday.
