Guam recorded its 17th traffic fatality of the year Saturday evening.
Two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle at about 7:20 p.m. along Route 1 in Yigo near the old amusement park.
One of the pedestrians was later pronounced dead, according to Guam police spokesman Sgt. Paul Tapao.
A video circulating on social media shows the two pedestrians lying on the road immediately after they were struck before medics or police arrived. Individuals in military uniforms can be seen responding to the injured.
Guam Fire Department spokesman Kevin Reilly said the military personnel were en route to Andersen Air Force base but stopped to assist when they saw the accident.
Reilly said both men appeared to be in their mid to late ’20s.
One of the servicemen began CPR on the pedestrian who was not breathing, and had no pulse, said Reilly.
The other pedestrian was unconscious and unresponsive, but he was still breathing.
GFD medics transported both men to GRMC where one of the pedestrians was later pronounced dead. The condition of the other pedestrian has not been released.
It’s not clear yet how the accident happened. Guam police are investigating.
