During a brief ceremony Friday, Acting Governor Josh Tenorio presented the Guam Department of Corrections (DOC) over $10,000 worth of new equipment and supplies to be used towards the upkeep and maintenance of the Guam Adult Correctional Facility along with Guam’s parks, roadways, and beaches.

This is the first installment of a $50,000 award from the Department of Interior (DOI) under the Office of Insular Affairs (OIA) Technical Assistance Program (TAP) Grant. The Guam State Clearinghouse secured the grant award through the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Guam’s Islandwide Beautification Task Force (IBTF).

“The Department of Corrections and their low-security inmates have been an active component of our islandwide beautification efforts and they play a critical role in assisting our village mayors with the maintenance of our public spaces,” said Acting Governor Josh Tenorio. “As we begin celebrating the holidays with loved ones, we appreciate DOC’s contributions to our community. We will continue working with our federal partners to ensure we maximize all funding opportunities for the benefit of our people and the places we celebrate life together.”

The new equipment includes two DR Power Equipment 3-Inch Wood Chippers, a MITM 2000-Watt Generator Inverter, Trailer Pressure Washer, Poulan Pro Chainsaw, Shindaiwa Hedge Trimmer, two Husqvarna Gas Leaf Blowers and two Shindaiwa Brushcutters along with 200 pairs of gloves and trash bags. Safety vests, road cones, shovels, rakes, paint, and other maintenance supplies will be provided to support beautification efforts islandwide. DOC will also utilize the new equipment to assist the Guam Department of Parks and Recreation and the Islandwide Beautification Task Force to help maintain Guam’s public spaces.
