On Sunday morning, August 8, 2021, the firefighters who had exposure to previously
reported firefighters that had tested positive for COVID-19 on August 4th, 2021, were swabbed, following GFD’s COVID-19 wellness, quarantine, and cohort policies.
Subsequently, an additional firefighter has tested positive for COVID-19.
Out of an abundance of caution, the remaining personnel assigned to the Astumbo Fire Station will remain on cohort, pending testing.
A thorough decontamination of all common areas, including the official vehicle, was performed at the Astumbo Fire Station, Dededo. Personnel were reminded to continue strict adherence to the safety directives, including the wearing of masks, social distancing, and frequent washing of hands both on and off duty, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“The Guam Fire Department continues to respond to all of Guam’s emergencies. GFD strongly encourages all of our personnel and the people of Guam to heed Governor Leon Guerrero’s message and go back to the basics with frequent handwashing, social distancing and the wearing of masks,” stated Acting Fire Chief Joey C. San Nicolas.
