Education Agenda Coming to the Villages; Residents encouraged to take part in reform decisions
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 12, 2012

The Governor’s Office is coming to your village. The Governor’s Education Task Force is taking the education agenda into the villages to engage the people in the decision-making process.

The Governor’s Office and island mayors coordinated a series of village meetings for every village over the next three weeks. All residents, especially public school parents, students, and teachers, are invited to attend and participate.

The task force’s reform team will explain education reform recommendations to villagers and then open the discussion for anyone’s questions, comments, and concerns. The Governor’s Office is not limiting its availability to the education reform agenda. Residents may also use this opportunity to discuss other education issues with the task force, and with any education officials and board members present.

“We’re advocating for major change, and we want to make sure the public has the opportunity to chime in and be part of the decisions,” Governor Calvo said. “Right now the education agenda seems to be isolated to the decision makers. The education agenda must be a community agenda if it’s really going to work. Everyone’s voice counts. I thank our mayors and vice mayors for coordinating this with us and hosting us in their villages.”
