Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio have welcomed President Biden’s latest Executive Orders requiring the COVID-19 vaccine or weekly testing for federal employees and contractors, health care workers, and most employers.
“During my morning briefing with the National Governors Association, I was provided an overview of these latest federal initiatives, which I welcomed wholeheartedly,” said Governor Leon Guerrero. “The Biden Administration’s latest executive orders directly align with our local policies announced last month, namely the vaccination requirement for Government of Guam employees and the proof of vaccination requirement for employees and patrons of certain establishments. Already 86% of GovGuam’s line agency employees are fully vaccinated, and that number increases to 90% if you include those with at least their first dose. Guam continues to lead the way in our pandemic response, implementing these life-saving public health policies ahead of our stateside counterparts.”
“As we continue our fight with this pandemic and the highly transmissible delta variant, we must use all the tools we have to keep our people safe, most especially the COVID-19 vaccine. Vaccination requirements not only protect our community from severe illness, hospitalization, and death, but they also support the continuity of services and enable businesses to maintain operations at maximum capacity, which will help support our economic recovery,” said Lt. Governor Josh Tenorio. “Guam is already a leader in vaccinations, evidenced by the nearly 112,000 people who are fully vaccinated. We thank the Biden Administration for this announcement, which reinforces our efforts to move forward, beat this virus, and build back better.”
