Guam – The Association of Government Accountants – Guam Chapter is pleased to announce Mary A.Y. Okada, Ed.D., President/CEO of the Guam Community College as the recipient of the 2013 Professor John M. Phillips Excellence in Government Accountability Award.
This award recognizes the cumulative achievements of a government professional that, throughout his/her public career, has served as a role model for others and has consistently exhibited the highest personal and professional standards.
The award is named after Professor John M. Phillips, MBA, CGFM, CPA, for his contributions to advancing government accountability in the Pacific region.
Professor Phillips is a charter and lifetime member of the AGA Guam Chapter and retired accounting professor at the University of Guam after a 22-year career.
“I am humbled and honored to have been recognized by the AGA with this prestigious award. I accept it on behalf of the hard-working and dedicated team of employees at GCC. They are the ones who ensure that procedures are followed, books are in order and requests for funding have a clear purpose at the college. Our clean audit record would not be possible without them,” Dr. Okada stated.
The award recognizes leaders and/or organizations dedicated to advancing government accountability and setting the standards of excellence. Dr. Okada will be presented with a plaque at the August general membership meeting on Wednesday, August 28, 2013, 12:00 noon, at the Onward Agana Beach Resort VIP Room.
