Airbnb to take part in GVB Travel Talks Summit; will discuss lodging micro-entrepreneurship and expanding tourism beyond Tumon

Airbnb will explore opportunities in developing Guam into a sustainable tourism destination and cultivating micro-entrepreneurship around the island, expanding tourism beyond Tumon and extending the benefits of tourism to local residents.

Online lodging booking giant Airbnb will participate in the upcoming #instaGuam Travel Talks Digital Global Summit on Aug. 14, the Guam Visitors Bureau announced.

Airbnb provides access on its platform to over six million places to stay in more than 100,000 cities and 191 countries and regions, including Guam.

The company was founded in 2008 as an online marketplace that leverages technology to help economically empower millions of people around the world to become hospitality entrepreneurs.

Representing Airbnb at the Travel Talks summit is Steven Kim, the public policy manager from Airbnb’s Seoul office. He will discuss alternative accommodation industry trends, strategies, and the potential for the Airbnb community to support Guam’s growing tourism industry ecosystem.

According to GVB, Airbnb will explore opportunities in developing Guam into a sustainable tourism destination and cultivating micro-entrepreneurship around the island, expanding tourism beyond Tumon and extending the benefits of tourism to local residents.

GVB and Airbnb will also work together to provide emergency messaging to Airbnb’s community of hosts and guests in the event of natural disasters and emergencies to help ensure safe and trusted travel experiences for visitors to Guam.

GVB and Airbnb will organize an Airbnb Host Workshop on Aug. 15 to provide an overview of how to set up an Airbnb listing, and engage in a discussion regarding tips and best practices on hosting to help hosts get started.
