The Guam International Airport Authority’s “Vaccinate at Gate 8 – Destination: Guam Airport” will simulate a typical travel experience and will be available to the first 200 individuals who register through the Guam airport website.

“Vaccinate at Gate 8” is a prize-based vaccination drive for individuals who have yet to receive a COVID-19 vaccination.

Upon arrival, participants will be issued a boarding pass from the United Airlines ticket counter, then through the airport’s newly expanded TSA screening check, and then to Gate 8, where the vaccinations will occur.

“Vaccinate at Gate 8” aims to vaccinate 50 participants every hour. Individuals have the option to register for four different vaccination time slots, which will take place on Friday from 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm.

Rolenda Faasuamalie, GIAA’s marketing administrator, said: “July 9th, we have four appointment slots — 50 people can sign up for each time slot from 1 pm, 2 pm, 3 pm, and 4 pm. And in those time slots, you can anticipate getting ticketed like you were traveling with our partner from United Airlines, The National Guard will vaccinate you, and after your recovery from your shot, you will be asked to board a plane and participate in a raffle drawing— and that’s where the instant gratification of 4 winners will occur and have that experience of being on an airplane again.”

Individuals in need of either an initial or second vaccine dosage are encouraged to participate in the event. Individuals aged 12 and older have the option to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, and individuals aged 18 and older have the option to receive the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines.

The event will include free parking and incentives for participants, including a tour of a United aircraft and a raffle during each hourly time block. In addition, 16 lucky winners can win a hotel voucher valued at over $100.

“Vaccinate at Gate 8 is a travel experience open to the public including minors. With vaccination, you will get to tour an aircraft and also have an opportunity to win hotel vouchers. The whole idea about travel is mostly around vacationing and vacation can occur here at home especially during this pandemic when there are hardly any flights to get off-island. And hotel stays are one of those incentives to help drive participation,” Faasuamalie said.

Additionally, the event will include live entertainment and refreshments.

“Vaccinate at Gate 8” will take place on July 9th, from 1-5 pm.

GIAA is hosting the drive in partnership with the Office of the Governor, the Department of Public Health and Social Services, the Guam National Guard, and United Airlines.

It is part of the effort to vaccinate 80% of Guam’s adult population by Liberation Day.

Persons under the age of 18 and those requiring assistance are allowed one adult escort. Participants are asked to bring a valid ID and to arrive 20 minutes before their scheduled vaccine appointment. For more information, visit
