The Department of Public Health and Social Services has announced that all dengue testing has been temporarily suspended due to the electrical fire at the central DPHSS facility in Mangilao.
According to GPHSS director Linda DeNorcey, the fire and the resulting internal damage prevents the Guam Public Health Laboratory (GPHL) from doing any dengue PCR testing.
“Therefore all PCR dengue testing at the GPHL is suspended until further notice,” DeNorcey said in a memorandum.
All private physicians and medical providers should continue to order off-island testing for dengue through their reference laboratory.
All uninsured patients should be referred to the Northern Community Health Center where tests will also be sent off-island.
Until further notice, all morbidity reports should be sent to the DPHSS Immunization Program and addressed Attention: Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Program.
Reports can be faxed to 734-1475 or hand-carried mail to Immunization Program. Attention: ELC. Suite 9, 130 University Avenue, Mangilao, Guam, 96913 (Castle Mall).
