Guam- A new Miss Earth Guam was crowned Wednesday night at the Sheraton Laguna Resort.
With close to 600 people attending the coronation event, school teacher Anna Calvo beat out 19 other women that competed for the title. She also won the award for best evening gown and was tied for most photogenic. The 25 year old is from Yigo and teaches middle and high school English at St. Paul Christian School. Calvo will represent Guam in Thailand this November. She is the successor to 2010 Miss Earth Guam Winner Naiomie Santos.
While the pageant has a typical swimsuit and evening gown competition, it prides itself on bringing awareness of environmental issues that affect the island and the world. In fact, the pageant contestants also woke up early Thursday morning to conduct a beach clean up.
