Arrest made in death investigation; man was decapitated, head found later in Dededo

As reported on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, the Guam Police Department launched a death investigation regarding the discovery of a lifeless man, who was decapitated within a unit in an apartment complex in Route 12, Santa Rita by a family member.

This was confirmed by officers from the Southern Precinct Command which prompted the activation of GPD’S Criminal Investigation Division and the Forensic Science Division.

The man was later identified by family members to be 61-year-old Andrew Ray Castro.
During the course of the investigation, detectives assigned to CID conducted numerous interviews and canvassed the neighborhood which led to the identity of a possible person of interest.

According to GPD, Castro’s head was later found in Dededo.

Detectives were later able to locate 40-year-old Donovan Allen Chargualaf Ornellas and he was brought to GPD headquarters in Tiyan for an interview.

Through the course of the interview, Mr. Ornellas had provided information as to the incident surrounding the death investigation. Detectives were also able to locate and confiscate evidence relative to the incident.

Donovan Allen Chargualaf Ornellas was later arrested for the following offenses:

-Aggravated Assault and
-Possession and the Use of a Deadly Weapon in the Commission of Felony

Although an arrest has been made, CID detectives continue to work as an autopsy is pending at this time. The Guam Police Department will work with the Office of the Attorney General’s Prosecution Division.
