A’s Edge Crusaders 12-11 In GAB; 10 Innings

Okkodo Field- Latte Spring Action matched up the Barrigada Crusaders(4-2) and Northern A’s(3-2) in Monday night action at Okkodo Field. Two teams that have shown solid pitching, defense and clutch hitting the game was expected to be a matchup of top teams. Not to dissapoint the game also turned in the first extra inning game of the year…with the average game in the Latte season lasting around 2 hours 15 minutes, Monday nights action would be a marathon 3 hour 30 minute, 10 inning thriller. The home team Northern A’s would match the Crusaders inning for inning, tying the game up in the bottom of the 6th, 8th and 9th inning before Lorenzo Flores would drive in the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning to walk off with the 12-11 win.

The Northern A’s would start the scoring in the first inning with RJ Miner, Johnny Aguon and Johnny Palomo collecting hits to give the A’s a early 3-0 lead on Crusader’s starter Josh Mayo. The A’s starter Jesse Miner Jr coming off a great game against the Talofofo Rangers looked tough again before running into trouble in the 4th inning. The Crusaders would finally get on the board with consecutive singles by Kaleb Cruz, Chad Fernandez and Jonavan De la Cruz and a rbi single by RJ Santos tied the game up at 4-4. The A’s would take the lead back in the bottom half of the 4th inning with a rbi single by Johnny Aguon driving in Ted Concepcion who had also singled.  The Crusaders would take back the lead in the 5th inning scoring three more runs with a rbi single again by Jonavan De la Cruz and a two rbi double by TJ Leo Guerrero making the score 7-5 Crusaders. Again, the A’s would answer in their half of the 5th inning with a rbi double by Danny Cruz driving in Johnny Palomo who scored three runs in the game. The A’s would score again in the bottom of the 6th inning to tie the game up at 7-7 with a two out single from Lorenzo Flores singling in Darren Meno who had tripled with two outs.

To extra innings the game would go with each team starting their at bats with a runner at 2nd base.  The Crusaders would score in the top of the 8th with a Eddie Garza ducksnort to right field driving in Clayton Cruz. The A’s would load the bases in their half of the 8th but only manage one run off a Darren Meno sac fly to send the game into the 9th inning. Top of the 9th the Crusaders would get their first two batters on by A’s errors and manage to score three runs without collecting a hit to take a 11-8 lead going into the bottom of the 9th. The A’s would also take advantage of some key errors by the Crusaders and a rbi single by Danny Cruz who was 2-5 on the night with 2 rbi and a rbi double by Jesse Miner Jr would tie the game up again at 11-11 after 9 innings of play.  The A’s Lorenzo Flores who had come in to relieve starter Jesse Miner Jr 4th inning would retire the Crusaders in the top of the 10th to set the stage for the bottom of the 10th inning. With the A’s Darren Meno on second to start the inning Flores who was 2-6 with 2 rbi on the night would stroke a single to center for the walk off win. Flores would also pick up the win on the mound throwing six innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out twelve.  A great game, the A’s had every spot in the lineup collect a hit and improve to 3-2 on the season. The Crusaders fall to 4-2.
