VIDEO: One Man is Dead, Another Injured in Auto-Pedestrian Crash at Chamorro Village


Guam – A 50 year old man is dead and a pedestrian was injured following an auto-pedestrian accident at the Chamorro Village in Hagatna this afternoon.

It happened just after 3:30 this afternoon.

The vehicle, a 1991 Nissan 240 SX Coup, was headed north on Route 1 when it jumped the traffic island, crossed over the south bound lane and plowed into the Chamorro Village parking lot striking and injuring a 48 year old vendor from Dededo who was setting up for tonight’s market.

The Nissan eventually crashed into a building at the Market. CPR was performed on the driver as he was rushed to Naval Hospital, but Guam Police PIO Officer A.J. Balajadia says the driver was pronounced dead at Naval Hospital at 4:15 pm this afternoon. His death marks the island’s 6th traffic fatality of the year.

The 48 year old vendor was struck was taken to GMH. Nursing Supervisor Cely Mangrobang reports that the man is talking and will under go x-rays. No condition has been determined for him yet.

Both north and southbound lanes of Rt. 1, from Rt.4 to Aspinall, are blocked and GPD asks drivers are ask to use caution while in this area.

Chamorro Affairs President Joesph Cameron has closed the Chamorro Village tonight.
